New Child Labour Prohibition Measures to Come into Force; Bill S-211

Bill S-211, known as the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act (the “Act”), received royal assent on May 11, 2023. It is anticipated to come into effect on January 1, 2024. The Act contains two parts. The first part imposes reporting requirements on certain businesses, government entities, and organizations. The second part amends the Customs Tariff to prohibit the importation of goods mined, manufactured, or produced by child and forced labour.
