“Working as a summer law student at Houser Henry & Syron LLP (HHS) is incomparable to other summer law jobs. From day one, I worked on important files and interacted with clients regularly. On a daily basis, I worked directly with the partners and lawyers at the firm, allowing for immediate feedback on my work and progress. The firm provides students with as many learning experiences as possible. In 12 weeks, I have participated on over 30 files ranging from planning estates, drafting wills, asset purchase agreements, phantom share plans, trust deeds, and shareholder agreements. In addition, I have been involved in researching and resolving employment issues, preparing documents for major financings, settling business-related disputes and incorporating companies. I am thrilled to have had many responsibilities throughout the summer. The firm also prides itself on its family values. I quickly became part of the HHS family. There are no hierarchies at HHS. Everyone’s opinion is valued and respected. From the law clerks to the lawyers, HHS is a wonderful environment to develop into a successful lawyer. I am proud to be returning next year as an articling student. I can truly see myself building my legal career at HHS and I would recommend HHS to other students looking to build experience in the industry.”

Summering at HHS was both a challenging and rewarding experience. I was given the opportunity to participate in meaningful work on interesting and complex files which varied from large asset purchases, share purchase agreements, estate planning and commercial real estate deals. As a student in a boutique firm, I was entrusted with a great amount of responsibilities as well as daily contact with clients. The friendly, warm and supportive culture at HHS created an optimal learning environment whereby my skills as a young lawyer flourished. While the learning curve is steep, the firm’s partners and associates would always take the time to explain the law as well as where my work fits into the bigger picture of the file or transaction. This informal mentorship as well as weekly student seminars provided me with a wealth of resources to improve my legal practice. HHS is dedicated to improving our efficiency, practicality and creativity in providing client services, and the tasks I was given reflect these values. I immediately felt that I was a valued part of the team and that my ideas were on equal footing with my colleagues. Overall, my experience at HHS has been exceptional, exceeding all my expectations and I can envision a future career here.

I started my legal career at Houser Henry, and I could not have asked for a better environment for professional development. I summered and articled here and returned as a licensed lawyer. Houser Henry’s clientele is diverse, with complex and interesting files. Throughout my time here I worked on matters ranging from estate planning to contentious shareholder disputes to international acquisitions. Some of the most rewarding projects were those where I was able to assist bright entrepreneurs in shaping and growing their businesses. The Houser Henry team is full of committed and ambitious people who constantly strive for progress and improvement both as a firm and as individuals. Whether you are just entering the legal field or continuing to evolve your practice, Houser Henry offers opportunities to learn and make an impact.
